A few of the families we are blessed to assist

Ms. Ramos and her daughter came to our organization for emergency housing assistance.  After being laid off from her job she fell behind  on her rent and was at risk of being evicted from her home.  G.E.M.S.  was able to make payment arrangements with her landlord and he allowed her and her daughter to stay in their home.

Ms. Ramos also is a part of our food program and volunteers 15 hours per week providing transportation to other participants in the program.

The Dixon Family

Ms. Dixon is one of our most promising parents.  She fought the gangs for her son and won.  She lost her job while reclaiming her son from the streets and was referred to G.E.M.S.  by one of our gang intervention mentors.  She is currently looking for employment in the medical field and G.E.M.S. assists her food and transportation.

Ebony came to our program as a pregnant mom that needed assistance preparing for her newborn baby.  G.E.M.S. was able to assist Ebony and helped to make sure Cameron had everything he needed when he arrived.

Ebony volunteers in our Outreach Division and speaks to teens about the hardships of becoming a mom too early.

Roslyn Adams and Family

Roslyn Adams already had four children of her own when a drug addicted relative walked out of the hospital in the middle of the night abandoning her newborn son.  Authorities contacted Roslyn and informed her that she was the only known next of kin.
Without hesitation, Roslyn rushed to the hospital and agreed to step up and care for the abandoned baby.  She named him Chance because that was her gift to him, a second chance at life.

During these difficult economic times, Roslyn has found it hard to care for her large family.  G.E.M.S. assists Ms. Adams with food, utility assistance, and counseling.

Ms. Scott is a single mother of two children currently employed by Inglewood Unified School District.  Ms. Scott was involved in a horrible car accident in which she was run over by an SUV. The injuries she sustained kept her hospitalized for months and even after she was unable to return home, she was still unable to return to work.
Ms. Scott was referred to G.E.M.S. by a friend of the organization and with our help she was able to pay her bills and buy food for her family until she was able to return to work.

UPDATE

Ms. Scott has made a full recovery from her injuries and returned to work at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.  Now that's a Superwoman!

Ms. Lindsay is a hardworking mother of one son.  Even through she was able to avoid being laid off from her job at the United States Post Office, her hours were cut drastically.  She went from working over 50 or more hours a week to less than 30.  She is living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to keep a roof over her and her son's head.

UPDATE

On December 12, 2008, Ms. Lindsay enrolled her son into our "YES WE CAN" community outreach program.

Many of our families are just one paycheck away from living without food, lights, or transportation.  G.E.M.S. is able to provide services to our families thanks to your generosity.
